Campaign Story
I applied to the National Student Leadership Conference. Just today I received an envelop containing the brochure about the different summer program courses from the NSLC, which I saw as a great opportunity.
However, I realized that it would be very expensive and a strain on my family's financial situation. The course itself is around $3300, not including the flights(around $1100, I live in the Philippines) and other extra incidental expenses. I was also in a rush to fill out the the applications as the deadline was due soon. With such sort notice about the program, fundraising options were extremely limited as most would require a lot of planning and organization which could not be achieved in the time that I have left. I have around 4 weeks until the next payment(I am paying in 4 quarters) and I was hoping to raise as much money as I could independently.
My parents are already paying for so much in terms of my education and I could not ask them to pay for a summer program which financially burden them.
I signed up for a Law & Advocacy Program, which is the closest I would be to experiencing the area of study that I would want to pursue in university. It had been very difficult to find programs that offered law as a summer course in my local area or at least one that is in English. I also applied for internships in different companies in my home country(South Korea), but none would accept undergraduate students.
I am really excited about this program, as I would be able to learn more about the career path that I am interested in!
For a short curriculum vitae(CV):
- All 7s in all IB subjects(equivalent to 4.0 GPA)
- Part of the Student Council since grade 9 as a Class representative
- Main female lead for this year's school musical
- Accepted into the 2020 Junior Advisory Board from IE University
- Speaks 4 languages: English and Korean fluently / Spanish and Japanese to a conversational level
- Tutors Korean to local highschool students(every Saturday)
- Part of the School Orchestra in grade 9(plays the clarinet)
Take part of the NSLC would be like a dream, being surrounded by students who share my interest and passion. I have always wanted to attend such a programs as that would give me the opportunity to really understand and learn what I want to do in the future. Any amount of donations will be appreciated and will be taken gratefully.
