Hi there! I'm volunteering on a care work project in Arusha, Tanzania. Tanzania which is in East Africa is a country of ancient tribal traditions and rich natural resources. Tanzania has an occurring increase of HIV/AIDS in the country, and a life expectancy which remains low. Many children in Tanzania still need extra help, so i'm asking for your donations to enable me to give them the help which is so badly needed. There are many thousands of orphans in Tanzania, over one quarter of females and one in five males ages 13 to 24 have lost one or both parents before they reach 18. In many of the orphanages and care homes, staff struggle with limited resources to feed, clothe and educate the children in their care. Staff often don't have the time to provide the stimulation and attention that these children need. So i'm hoping to be able to give them some of this help, but I can only do it with your help.

Volunteering through Project Abroad is a rewarding way to help improve conditions and the level of education for local children. I am joining a volunteer care project on May 1st where I will be working in care homes, orphanages and kindergarten schools until June 1st. My qualifications and experience will be useful but it will be my energy, passion and commitment to these children that will see me through.

Many of the children I will be caring for will have disabilities including autism, down syndrome, deaf or blind symptoms and other varied physical and mental disabilities. By volunteering I will play a key role when it comes to improving the quality of life for these children and young adults, with your help of donations.

The orphanages and care centers that I will be volunteering in, have limited toys for the children and so the local staff carry out basic lessons with children as young as three in order to keep them occupied and stimulated. Education is very important for the younger generation in Tanzania. I will be working alongside local teachers developing resources and classroom activities to make the lessons more interesting. These lessons help improve the children’s level of English as well as basic numeracy. Not only will I be caring for these children I will be getting involved with these lessons and carrying out basic educational activities with the children, including arts and crafts, colouring, and simple maths games.

In total I have to raise a total figure of €4071.35, so far I have raised €2340. €755 of this has been fun raised and donated by the support of local community members. So I am asking you for your help to allow me to change the lives of these young children, many of them orphan's, along with other volunteers. Any donation will be greatly appreciated as it will go towards giving these children the chance that most of us here have in Ireland. So please, donate any amount big or small to go towards this great cause.
