My name is Naomi Mitchell - I'm wife to Nicholas and mom to 7 beautiful, busy, homeschooled children - Theresa (17), Joseph (15), Clare (12), Philip (10), Thomas (7), Gianna-Marie (5) and Benedict (2). I am also a birth doula and La Leche League leader offering support to birthing moms and their partners, breastfeeding support and guidance and more, throughout the metropolitan area of Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth and surrounds, South Africa). For those who don't know what a doula is, it is a woman (who must be a mother herself) who offers support, guidance, and help of all kinds to a pregnant mom and her partner before and after but especially during childbirth. The role is distinct from the healthcare professional (doctor and/or midwife) attending the birth. A doula plays many roles and focus is on being a practical and emotional support and even mentor for the mom and partner. As a family, we have one large family vehicle - a 2005 Mercedes Vito (big enough for the family!). No secondary cars. We got this for a good price 2 years ago on finance, and literally TWO WEEKS after expiry of our 2-year extended warranty, the vehicle dies on us - broken Conrod, and big crack in the engine block, requiring installation of a new engine. We have no transport in the meantime - public transport is minimal and unreliable here, and Uber/similar likewise unreliable where we live and not sustainable (especially for a doula, with births late at night in lockdown curfew!).

Our repair/replacement costs come to the equivalent of US$3,850.00 (approx) - in our currency R55,000.00 (fifty five thousand South African Rand) this means- something we obviously do not have, nor can we borrow any more. We are reaching out to others around the world who may wish to assist with crowdfunding so we can get back on the road, as a family - and me, as a doula!

A little bit may go a long way, what with our South African Rand, so whatever you feel you wish to contribute will be appreciated.

UPDATE 18/3/2021 - we have taken out a bank loan to cover the costs, due to the urgency of getting back on the road, but needless to say, this is a big burden for us now to carry. If you can contribute, these contributions can now help us repay that loan quicker, and would be greatly appreciated.
