Our friend Nancy has suffered through not one, but two of the most devastating floods to hit Texas in the past 10 years, Rita and Harvey. She struggled to rebuild after Rita, and - normally - could take on Harvey too; however, she just underwent an extremely serious second surgery to rebuild her foot injured in a fall. She was warned that amputation of her leg was the next surgery if she did not stay off her feet.....then Harvey hit. She was evacuted 3 times, ending up at her niece's house with only a change of clothes and some medications. She lost her truck and her car in the flooding, and there was 4 1/2 feet of water in her house. It will have to be gutted of drywall and insulation, the appliaces and furniture replaced. The problem is that she cannot do this work, as she did the first time, and there will be no FEMA aid other than funds for one month's rent (Since she lives in Vidor and not Houston where apparently the aid money is going). She could not afford flood insurance after Rita, so there is no help other than what her friends and acquaintances can give her. I realize that there is so much going on all over the country and many causes to donate to, but please consider donating what you canto Nancy so that she can begin to rebuild her home and her life.
