Good day everyone!
It’s scary how every now and then we come across a sickness that we never knew was possible that we now have a longer list of illnesses than we had years back. Although new diseases are being discovered by doctors, the most known above anything else would still be cancer—and for females, it’s breast cancer.
We’ve all heard of it, and probably even know a few strong, and brave souls who have battled this sickness, but let me give a brief explanation of what breast cancer is.
Cancer, generally, is the uncontrollable growth of cells, thus breast cancer happens when cells in the breast grow out of control, forming tumors on the affected area and can be carried to other parts of the body.
Just last December of 2017, the woman I look up to the most, my mother, has been diagnosed with Stage IIA Breast Cancer. Although this did not surprise me that much since we have had other members of the family with the same disease, this still got me really sad. With this, she has undergone breast operation last January 2018 to remove the tumor on her left breast, and she has been advised to take four cycles of chemotherapy, and 18 cycles of Herceptin (Trastuzumab) treatment.
Herceptin is the brand name for trastuzumab, and is used to treat all stages of breast cancer. It is a liquid medication that is to be injected. One vial of this costs around PHP 90,000, and she will need to have this every three weeks.
Our nanay, being a fighter that she is, has already completed all the chemotherapy sessions needed, and a few cycles of the Herceptin Treatment. However, she will still need to go through the remaining 12 cycles. Although we have received help from the Roche Patient Support Program, we still need to cover the remaining 6 cycles of the treatment, which would cost PHP 540,000, plus other fees. We have already exhausted our savings and loan allowances, and we are now preparing funds for our nanay’s treatment this coming 29th of October.
Caring Simora has always been very caring, selfless, and she never backs down from a fight, which is why we are with her in this battle that she is facing. With this, we are humbly appealing to your generous hearts for any amount that you can spare to help us in raising funds for our mother’s treatments. With your help, we can help my mom win against breast cancer.
