Campaign Story
“Random Stories of Kauzi” is a summation of different thematic collections of ANIKA254s flagship program “The SEMA-ANIKA forum” which it does in collaboration with SEMA app, a program of Strategic Applications International (SAI).
Over the course of the past three years, starting from 22nd August 2015, the SEMA-ANIKA forum has been a safe space for discussions on issues in society to be had between youth and professionals. Being an art initiative, ANIKA254 has leveraged the artistic energies of creatives in Nairobi in the creation of conscious, educative and thought provoking artistic pieces that have been shared during these forums.
The platform has tackled huge issues including, but not limited to; gender based violence, Rape culture, the Sustainable development goals, Human rights and mental wellness.
‘Random stories of Kauzi’ is a theatrical presentation that was meant to be a culmination of the mental wellness discussion series. In its planning, characters prone to societal stereotype within the Kenyan urban and peri-urban context were identified through a careful analysis of the data collected during the mental wellness discussion series. These were:
1. A suicidal Christian
2. An abused Child
3. A divorced pastor
4. An Ex-convict
5. A Teenage girl with Multiple Personalities.
6. A prostitute
This was the third thematic show since we started these discussions on thematic areas within the SEMA-ANIKA forum framework.
This particular showcase was a marked immense success that pulled crowds in their numbers to its unveiling at the Safaricom Michael Joseph center on 13th July 2018. Based on this showcase, we have been invited to have an urban cultural exchange between us and Spoken-word Rwanda which is one of two major artistic groups in Rwanda. This invite officially came on 20th September 2018. The show we will be showcasing at in Rwanda is scheduled to start on 25th of October 2018, after a series of workshops, and end on Wednesday 31st 2018 in Kigali Rwanda. Our hosts, Spoken word Rwanda, have been gracious enough to offer us with accommodation and have also committed to facilitating our movements within Kigali as we showcase to different pre-arranged audiences. They are however not able to do any more due to financial constraints.
We are seeking $2700 to facilitate the transport, accommodation and food of a group of 10
