My Name is Naima A. Stennett. I am a native of Kingston, Jamaica. I am a summa Cum laude graduate of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a minor in chemistry. I am currently completing my Master's Degree in Biology at NCCU and in the process of applying to medical school. I started playing volleyball for Wolmers' High School for Girls. eventually I was given the opportunity to play on both the Jamaica National Volleyball Senior and Junior Team. My tertiary education, which began at NCCU at the age of 16, was made possible by an athletic scholarship in volleyball. One of my greatest accomplishment as a student athlete at NCCU was being a part of the 2006 CIAA Championship Team. I found time spent playing volleyball for Jamaica National Volleyball Team to be an in-valuable experience that I still draw from today.

In support of the Jamaica Volleyball players both at the high school and club level, I have established The Naima A. Stennett SAT Scholarship Fund. In order to continue the effort of helping Jamaican volleyball players excel both on the volleyball court and academically. My intention is to be able to provide them with the opportunity to become leaders in the Jamaica Volleyball community. This scholarship fund will provide scholarships that will cover the FULL cost of the standardized test for college admissions in the United States (SAT) so that they can have the option to receive volleyball scholarships in the United States.

Presently, there are no scholarships with this specific funding available to volleyball players in Jamaica. Therefore, I felt it was my responsibility to create this scholarship fund to lessen the financial burden of those individuals who have aspirations to play in the United States and further their education. Michelle Obama once said "...when you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity…you do not slam it shut behind you…you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed..." This is exactly what I want to accomplish with these scholarship, opening a door of infinite opportunities.

I am confident that with your support, we will afford Jamaican volleyball players the opportunity that they desperately need. I’m striving to give back to Jamaica Volleyball program with the hope that when we work together as a team, we all can become successful and paint a better future for our youth.

Thank you in advance for your support of the Naima A. Stennett SAT Scholarship Fund.
