PUTTING WORDS INTO ACTION!!!

Many experience unexpected financial burdens as a result of illness, disease and other unforeseen circumstances. In addition, those who live abroad (outside their home countries), are very much aware of the emotional turmoil of not being able to attend funerals and other major events of their loved ones back home, due to the lack of available finances at such an unexpected time.

Research conducted by the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) has revealed that 66% of patients with major financial challenges suffer depression or anxiety, 29% delay filling prescriptions due to financial pressures, and 22% skip doses of their medications. Additionally, 40% of patients reported depleting their savings, almost 30% reported dealing with bill collectors, and 54% of those handling a major/catastrophic financial burden said it had become more difficult in the past year to afford treatment.

The example of Carol Perniciaro

In Madison, NJ, 57-year-old Carol Perniciaro knows firsthand the debilitating cost of cancer care. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, she believed her insurance coverage would be enough to cover her treatment path, which included radiation. Married to a career firefighter with superb insurance coverage, she never considered the possibility of being unable to afford her treatment. “In reviewing my insurance, it read that all radiation costs were covered,” says Perniciaro. “I thought that’s great. What wasn’t clear was the fact that it was only [covered] up to a certain amount—an amount that barely covered one treatment.”

Halfway through her treatments, Perniciaro was told her insurance would no longer pay. So, unable to pay out of pocket, she stopped going. “I couldn’t afford the treatment and I told the hospital the only way I would come back is if they would accept what the insurance company would pay,” she explains. The hospital agreed at the time and after several weeks, her treatments resumed. But in the end, Perniciaro ended up with the fight back in her hands. Sadly, many people she befriended and spoke with during her treatments were also struggling to make payments.

The NACIC Support Fund

In response to many calls by our Facebook followers, NACIC (the New Apostolic Christians in China) has decided to launch a fundraising campaign, which will aim to support those in need of finances to cover expenses related to medical care and those who need to attend funerals of loved ones in their home countries. The NACIC Support Fund is an entirely private initiative.

With your help and support we can help to ease the financial burden of many in need. Please donate generously and also like our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/nacinchina/

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you”
