After years of poking and prodding Maggie with fertility tests, procedures, appointments, needles big and small, and still no baby, we have reached an exciting new frontier that offers renewed hope. Maggie gets to take a rest and instead we have found a new victim to poke and prod. Her name is Amanda and she has volunteered to be our surrogate! She will be our gestational carrier (GC) but we prefer the more technical term: baby mama. We are so grateful for her.
A year ago we sat with our doctor as he laid out this new plan. Step One would be to create a fresh batch of embryos. Step Two, the more challenging part, would be finding a surrogate. With that second step accomplished and tiny frozen embryos patiently waiting, we hope to give one (or two!) of them a better chance at surviving the InVitro (IVF) process and growing into a tiny human that we can pick up and bring home with us, possibly next spring!
But that leads us to Step Three, which may be the hardest of them all.
So far we have managed the cost of 3 IVF transfer cycles and 3 mock cycles in between, but the cost of surrogacy is beyond our reach.
It is not easy to be on this vulnerable end of giving, but we are seeking donations to help cover the GC fee, which is the surrogate's salary for carrying our baby, and is needed up front before we can set this whole process in motion. Every penny of it will be placed into an escrow account for the surrogate, and every penny of it will be received with our gratitude and love.
Plus, with each donation we will grant partial custody, wherein each of you will receive visits at inconvenient times when this child we're working so hard for is trying our patience ;)
Thank you for your friendship and for the support you have been to us through this very trying journey. This process has been fascinating, heartbreaking, confusing, faith promoting and at times downright hard. We have experienced every possible emotion along the way, but for now we are excited and hopeful.
