On April 13, 2015, Nicole & Justus Brierley’s 9-year old son, Nick, underwent brain surgery at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine, to remove a golf ball-sized cancerous tumor attached to his cerebellum. The tumor was diagnosed as a medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor afflicting children. Further pathology reports led to an invitation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where they have a program to target Nick’s specific type of tumor. Having recently moved to Maine, the Brierley’s are now relocating again to fulfill these devastating demands of cancer treatment. Justus and Nicole decided it was crucial for their family to stay together, as it was especially important to Nick. Being with his younger brother, Joey (7) and sister Julia (5), brightens his darkest days.

With their faith and trust in God, Nicole & Justus left everything behind, including Justus’ job, to get Nick the care he needs. They will incur expenses like housing, food, and simply raising their kids 1,200 miles from their closest relatives. When they can, and as Nick’s treatment will allow, they will return to Maine, incurring travel costs. Nick will be undergoing radiation and chemotherapy at St. Jude for almost a year while his parents earn no income and have expenses in both Maine and Tennessee - expenses that will surely go beyond this time for follow-up care, medication, etc.

Please support the Brierley family and rally around Nick as he bravely fights, and beats, cancer!
