Travelling has long been said to be a great way to learn about the world around us, to celebrate diversity and develop empathy. A small group in my school is organising a trip to Tomok VIllage in Indonesia. Purposes of this trip include teaching children in the school basic English, helping to build a water tank for their school toilets, and just interacting with the villagers. Tomok village is located at picturesque Lake Toba with beautiful hills, as well as many small villages that are rich in culture. I would really like to be able to participate in this wonderful activity to broaden my horizons and experience a new and unique culture. I am confident that this new experience will change me, and open my eyes to the beautiful world around me. It will also teach me to be more appreciative of what I have back at home. However, overseas travelling does not come cheap and I am hoping that I would be able to get your help to fund my dream to volunteer overseas, to gain brand new experiences, and to become a better and more appreciative person. The money gained from this would be used to pay for the air tickets, transport as well as accomodation. Any extras will be donated to the school.Thank you! Some background information:The school that we will be volunteering at only has one teacher that can speak English. As such, having volunteers over to help them in teaching will be greatly appreciated by the school. The school does not have a proper flushing system and instead relies on water stored in their water tanks to wash their waste away. As such, we will be helping them build more water tanks for toilets that are lacking them.
