My Used Car Fund

Hello! My name is John Atkinson and I am starting my own personal fundraiser here to help me raise the money to purchase a used vehicle, either a used car or a light duty pick-up truck, so that I can get back to work here in Oklahoma City as soon as possible and be able to find a better job. I moved from Clearwater, FL to a very small town about fifty miles West of Oklahoma City, OK called Hinton,OK back in 2012 when I was 26 years old with a fence-building job lined up as well as a nice farmhouse to stay at with my boss and his wife. After six months, I decided to move to Oklahoma City after deciding to get an apartment with my girlfriend of the time. I had several jobs at restaurants and delis as well as at landscaping and agricultural businesses. However, after working last year (2019) at a Family-Owned BBQ restaurant the first half of the year and for an agricultural business the second half, I lost my job at the beginning of this year. Up until then, I had been working Full-Time and walking to work each day after I had relocated back to OKC from Edmond to be closer to my job. Last October, with the help of my parents, I got my own place for the first time in my life: a remodelled studio apartment. This happened right as the coronavirus pandemic hit the United States and the rest of the world, making a new job difficult for me to find. I had to sell my 2002 Saturn SL-2 for $800 in order to pay rent and bills back in February so I need to find another used vehicle, hopefully with working heat and A/C. I’m a hard-working 33 year-old man actively seeking another job and applying for work as well as applying for my unemployment insurance benefits In the State of Oklahoma. I’m not a Veteran but I am a Patriotic US Citizen trying to get back on my feet without being stuck on unemployment, which I have not yet received any benefits or ever received unemployment benefits in the past. I don’t have any children or dependents and I live by myself in a studio apartment with nice neighbors who are also doing their best during this time. My mother and father who live 6 hours away, as well as the government stimulus check for $1,200, have both been helping me get by over the last three months but I’m quickly running out of income and my own source of funds so I am excited to get back to work. I desperately need some transportation to get to a new job safely and reliably at least 4 days a week. Also included in this fundraiser, I need to get my driver’s license reinstated by the Department of Public Safety since it was suspended for driving without of any proof of insurance about 2 years ago in May of 2018. This will cost about $250, along with updating my vehicle registration (tag) which will cost another $200-$300 since it hasn’t been updated since March 2018. Any help you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and put towards a good cause to get a young man who is excited to get back-n-forth to work with some reliable transportation to get to a regular job about 4 miles away at the local grocery store. Thank you for your time and I am deeply grateful for the help I’ve already received from my friends, my neighbors, my family, and especially those total strangers who have been helping me get by over the last three months, but unfortunately I’m quickly running out of income and a source of funds so I am excited to get back to work and transportation to get back to work would be a tremendous hel. I want to gain back my independence from being financially reliant on state and federal government aid programs like unemployment insurance and reliance on my immediate family.
