Growing up, travel was a huge part of my life as I have a parent who was not from the country I was born in. I was fortunate enough to be able to get a feel of the travel bug and all the wonders that are out in the world.
Now as I round up my academic years, it has come time to make dreams come true and merge my two passions: travel and education. I am majoring in the field of Early Childhood Studies and as I approach my final placement, I have the opportunity to take it abroad.
I play competitive sport as well and my team has raised money to build a well for a community in Uganda. We have the opportunity to go there and meet the individuals in the community and see where our hard fundraising work has gone. I then decided to stay in the continent of Africa and apply for my final internship/placement in Cape Town, South Africa!
Now, as a 3rd year student living in downtown Toronto, with minimal financial aid from my parents, working 2 jobs and playing competitive sport, the dream is very much alive, but reality stings. The costs of maintaining my apartment, as well as embarking on this incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity, has definitely put a dent in making this dream come true.
Any bit of support would help as I patiently anticipate the wait until my 5 week education internship in a class of children 6-7 years of age!
Thank you in advance for the support! :)
