Campaign Story
Hi Everyone!
I am Adam, father of Matthew. Please allow me to tell the story of my son's condition. At the age of 2 months, we notice that my son's Sclera (the white outer layer of the eyeball) has some sort of yellowing color, we think that this is normal and will go after several days. A month after, the yellowish color is still in his Sclera. That time, we consulted a Pediatrician, when the pediatrician checks him up, the Doctor tells us that the yellowish of his sclera is not normal and indicates that there is a possible sign of biliary atresia and immediately refer us to a laboratory to have his blood check and his abdomen to get an ultrasound image.
The lab results and ultrasound image, initially show that my son has a condition called Biliary atresia. (Biliary atresia is a blockage in the tubes (ducts) that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder.
This congenital condition occurs when the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not develop normally. It is not known why the biliary system fails to develop normally).
Right after we knew that this is possibly biliary atresia. We consulted several Pediatrics Gastroenterologists, after showing the lab results and color of poop and urine, all of them wants to have a Liver biopsy to check the condition of his liver. We have taken the suggestion of one of the Pediatrics Gastroenterologists, to has a liver biopsy and if possible to have a Kasai Procedure (The Kasai procedure involves removing the blocked bile ducts and gallbladder and replacing them with a segment of your child's own small intestine.)
As a parent, it is hard to see your child undergo surgery at a very young age.
After the surgery, we found out that the gallbladder and bile duct of our son didn't develop at all. Our last option is for our son to have a liver transplant in India. Liver transplant costs almost 30 lakh ($30,000.00 USD). I am hoping for your help in any amount.
I am reviving this campaign for us to raise the enough money needed for the operation to be done.
Thank you very much.
God Bless Us All!
