My Prosthetic Fund

In August of 2017 I was involved in an accident and lost all of my right hand except for the thumb. After several months of recovery, I am now ready to begin the process of acquiring a prosthetic to help me regain some of the functionality of the missing fingers.

My research after this experience has shown me that many people have had similar accidents, retaining their thumb, but prosthetic science is mostly focused helping those who have lost an entire hand or more, meaning that there is very little available for people like me. As such, I want to make use of the research openly available, to design, prototype, and create my own hand, which I can then share with other people in my situation.

The hand will most likely be 3D printed and lightweight, though with enough funding I may be able to create more than one variant suitable for different tasks/environments. The funding will go to paying for specific assistance I may require (3D modelling, circuit design, etc.) as well as materials and other resources.

All of my designs will be openly available after completion, and I intend to make videos along the way explaining my progress and detailing how the designs work. Hopefully this will be helpful to many other people as well.
