Hi!

First I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. It's my first time public ask for some help and speciali money donation ever.

My name is Kristine. I'm 25 years old. I'm from small EU Baltic country - Latvia. Year and a half ago I moved back to country area from the capital city and now I live with my husband in countryside next to small town Grobina in small farmhouse belonging to my parents-in-law.

I successfully studied in University of Latvia for 5 years. I have gained a professional master's degree in clinical optometry and optometrist qualifications in year 2015.

There are already 3,5 years I worked in my profession of optometrist. But in our country in town optometrist salary is very low compared to other EU countries or US. I have to work very many hours [approximately 180 to 190 hours/month] for salary which cover the daily living expenses. But I'm glad that I have a job at all. My husband is disabled person [he has a movement disorder] and he isn't gainfully employed. In our country, the social benefit for the disabled person are low and my husband gets the lowest one. In everyday life, he helps parents with country and field works on they small farm. Mostly we acquiesce and don’t complain about our financial situation. We don’t have much money but we can survive.

After a year of rest from a large study process I accepted a new challenge and as a result on September 2016 I will launch studies in University of Liepaja in Natural and Engineering Science Faculty for full-time doctoral degree study program "E-learning technology and management" for next 4 years.
Since my previous study marks and achievements have been very good I will study in state-funded study place and I do not have to pay for study - it's great! But as it's full-time study program I will not be able to work full-time any more. This will reduce our daily living family budget. Also there will be additional expenses for research and development of Doctoral thesis like:

  • travel expenses [from home to University daily; to participation on out-town studies events; in addition to the acquisition of knowledge will regularly travel to the capital city (at least 1-2 times per month), etc. ]
  • costs of research activities,
  • the cost of establishment of technologies,
  • participation in conferences,
  • publication of articles in scientific journals etc.

These are that additional costs for what I would need extra money and funding.

For you to understand why it would be worthwhile to support my studies and my research work I provide insight into my plan what I would do in research of my doctoral thesis. Since I’m a vision care specialist I plan to unite visual science what I studied before and engineering and technology from new studies. I have a vision: 1) to develop standards for the parameters to be applied in e-learning technologies then creating educational materials for people of different ages and 2) create specialized e-learning environment in which every user can adjust themselves depending on their age, visual functions change, with low vision or other vision changes or diseases to improve the availability of e-learning in society and enhance learning results performance of study in the e-environment.

That why it's not just for my studies, but also a contribution to society and education.

I have a goal of raising at least $5 50 for my first year of study to cover the additional costs of study. If you are able to assist me in reaching this goal - no matter what your contribution is, it would be greatly appreciated. Please also spread the word to any of your friends or family that you think may be interested in helping a young woman achieve hers education dream.

At the and I thank you one more time for your consideration and for taking the time to read my story.
Kristine
