My Mum’s Home Collapsed – Help Her

Update posted by Varvara Chinenova On Jan 02, 2018

It has been a rollercoaster, however, things are looking up now.

What happened so far: the government has decided not to give our family a flat, but to reimburse the cost of the apartment. There were bureaucratic problems with that part since my sister and I (both residing in Germany) are still registered at the old apartment and the government refused to transfer the money to our mother unless we both unregister from that address. We have managed to reach an agreement where we sent a letter detailing that the process of removing our names from the registry and registering at a new address will take time which is why we asked to transfer the money now and we vouched to forward the necessary documents as soon as they are ready (that should happen in 3 weeks).

As of now, the money is already in her account, it should be just enough to buy a new flat. Our mother has already found one and the deal should be closed by the end of January - the deadline for our campaign. All the bulky stuff (furniture, home electronics) is still in the collapsed building and it is and will not be possible to retrieve it because of the life hazard. With all that in mind, our target is 1500 euro, which should cover buying new basic furniture/home appliances and transportation costs of all the stuff we have managed to get out of the building during the evacuation. We do realize that reaching the goal of 1500 euro is unlikely. Nevertheless, we are extremely grateful to the contributors and hopeful at the prospect of helping our mum with every bit we have.
