My Mom’s Bone Marrow Transplant

My mom was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) last January 8, 2018. The heartbreaking news left the whole family devastated. We were all shocked. Hopes shattered while listening to the doctor telling us that she will not live long and that chemotherapy is not a guarantee that she'll be saved. And that the only true treatment would be a bone marrow transplant, which we obviously couldn't afford (approximately Php 3,000,000.00 or USD 60,000), leaving us the choice of accepting everything and wait for that day. This crushed my heart knowing that I will just be standing there watching her deteriorate and eventually die. But I refuse to give up. I don't want to lose my mom just like that. She's still alive and I promise to do everything to save her. That's why I'm setting up this campaign for her to alleviate financial worries.

My mom is just 56 years old, very health conscious and has been healthy her whole life, except that starting in November 2017, she developed different kinds of illnesses (allergies, pneumonia, etc.) which she doesn't normally have. It was in December when the doctor advised a complete blood count (CBC) that we found out abnormalities on her WBC and RBC numbers. The doctor immediately suspected leukemia. And in early January performed a bone marrow aspiration to confirm it. On the 8th, the tragic news came to us. Sad is an understatement of how we felt at that moment. I feel very sorry for my mom. She doesn't deserve this and as a son, I felt hopeless because I feel like I can't do anything to help her. But despite all that’s happened, she remained strong, told us that she's trying her best to accept her fate. Listening to her words crushed me. I wept and cried hard. This is by far the lowest point in my life. But like how my mom showed strength, I should be strong and figured that something must be done. I want my mom to have the treatment that's believed would give her a shot at survival. And financially, we couldn't do that alone.
