Campaign Story
Hi, my name is Allen I am 23 years old, ever
since I was in secondary school I had back pains which I always put
down to carrying a heavy school bag and walking up and down stairs all
day. but in the last 4 years it has gotten much worse, after seeing 3
doctors and them all prescribing me pain medication without any scans or
x rays I was none the wiser. I have now finally found a good doctor.
after explaining my situation on my first visit she actually sent me off
for scans,
The results came back and my last lumbar
vertebrae is rubbing against my sacrum which puts pressure
on my nerves, I can't do a lot of things
like running, exercise, lifting or carrying, sit or stand
for too long. I do photography which makes me bend over to get in
certain positions which will send sharp shocks up my spine so I can't do
that for very long. So doing certain movements will cause my vertebrae
to rub against my sacrum and press on my nerves.
I have flair ups
of good and bad days on the bad days I can't sleep or get in any
position to relieve the pain. And the pain medications dont help.
Doing the simplest of things like carrying shopping bags can make me
have pain for days. I am on a urgent waiting list for pain management
which is 18 months. I am on another urgent waiting list to see an
orthopedic surgeon which is 14 months and that is just the initial visit
and will still be a longer waiting list for the surgery itself.
So this
is why I want to try and raise money so I can go private and get this
surgery over and done with as soon as possible. Thanks to anyone that
helps.
