Hello everyone, Pancake has recently ingested a foreign body, and is undergoing emergency surgery.

2 years ago, we adopted Pancake from another family, where another dog was bullying Pancake. Also, Pancake had fleas all over his body, with nails so long it had twisted his toes over time, and was neither neutered nor vaccinated. Pancake back then was 4 years old, and appeared as a bright, brilliant and energetic dog. We could not resist that gleam in his eyes and that endearingly cute underbite he has. We could not bear to see such a happy and energetic dog live uncomfortably. We decided to rescue Pancake and give him a more comfortable life under our care. We immediately took him for grooming and hooked him up on flea and other skin care medication. Gradually, things got better and his overall health improved significantly.

Just a few days ago, we observed that he was vomiting after the consumption of food. We also then found our money plant stems lying around the house, and we thought it might be the ingestion of the money plant, which poisoned him with stomach issues. He was rushed to VES for emergency care. After being on IV fluids and monitoring overnight, he was seen feeling much better and brighter the next day as he also began eating (though still vomited out eventually). Initial scans showed that there was a foreign object not more than 0.5 cm in diameter and the vet said that looking at it, the object should pass through his intestines after a few days.

But 2 days later on 16 Dec 2022, another x-ray scan revealed another foreign body in Pancake's intestines, about 3cm long. The vet advised that this would be why he was vomiting his food, as the newly discovered object was obstructing his intestines. Moreover, the vet said that Pancake had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the item to prevent his intestines from rupturing.

The initial cost was around $3k, which we are able to cover, but now with the surgery, it is inflated to around $10k, and the final cost is unknown as of now (to be updated).

We would deeply appreciate your kind donation to Pancake's surgery. Pancake is a lovely cute companion and is extremely silly. He has a cute underbite which makes him so unique from other dogs. We really love Pancake and would go all out to pay for his medical bills, but we are a little tight on cash. We sincerely appreciate your generous donations towards Pancake and we will continue to send updates here.

Pancake is out of surgery!

The surgery to remove the obstruction was successful and Pancake is recovering well! He was stable overnight with a rather clear stomach! (Meaning that whatever was stuck in the stomach due to the intestine blockage was able to pass through now!) Pancake is relatively comfortable during the exam this morning. . . . .
