I'm hoping to go to Costa Rica to participate in a very important project helping endangered sea turtle species. There is an extremely imminent threat to the survival of several sea turtle species (i.e. Olive Ridley, Green, and Leatherback) in Costa Rica due to egg harvesting, poaching and pollution. Without projects like this one, it is very possible that these beautiful species could die out in the wild. Here's a link with more information about the project: http://www.globalvolunteernetwork.org/costarica/projects/turtle-project
This has been one of the most trying years of my life. I have been sick for much of 2012-2013 with Lyme's disease and it has completely given me a new outlook on life and appreciation for how fragile it can be. I've decided, with my newfound health, I want to try to do as much as I possibly can to help people and animals in need. This project is hopefully the first of many conservation trips I'd like to go on in the future, because although I'm not personally responsible for the major loss of wild animal populations, I think it is everyone's responsibility to do what they can to help save and restore what's left of the world.
