Campaign Story
He went to the hospital 6/14 for removal of a blood clot between the covering of aortic and lining of the heart pump and be home within 6 days. The surgery for that went perfect. He was coming home that weekend.
Goes wrong. The catheter they put in caused swelling which he consistently complained about. The nurse rolled the table on the catheter line caused urine to back up. They think they may have given him the wrong antibiotic. After 3 days they decide to take a x-ray, blood work, a couple of hours later it is...
EMERGENCY surgery. Going to ICU now.
Gangrene set in now. They do extensive surgery. They cut out infected area from groin area into the left leg and leading to rectum. A massive amount. He is on a ventilator now. He was returned to the OR every 2 to 3 days for more removal of infected area. 4 trips to OR. Wound vacs were placed, the last one did not seal so they are now packing and changing dressing. He was losing blood from the wound so they gave him some blood. Giving him medications to keep his blood pressure up. Adjusted his pacemaker to go off at 160 because his heart went into racing pattern from 70 to 140. They had to use the paddles to straighten that out. So they adjusted the pacemaker. Days of racing heart. They turned up his heart pump from 5300 to 5600.
Now we have the following teams:
LVAD for heart pump
PACEMAKER DR.
ICU TEAM
SURGICAL TEAM
Next: They decide to do a tracheostomy which was a surgically created hole (stoma) in his windpipe (trachea) that provides him an alternative airway for breathing. The tracheostomy tube was inserted through the hole and secured in place with a strap around his neck Then the ventilator was hooked to it with hopes of weaning him off.
Next: Dialysis
He is still urinating but not enough. Says a kidney injury probably due to the septic.
Feeding tube
Unknown infection treating with wide spectrum of antibiotics.
Goals: Move him completely off ventilator, downsize trach, heal wound, skin graphs, keep BP up, eventually , hopefully kidney function will improve.
Help fund family to pay bills.
Please pray harder than ever for his recovery.
Share it to everyone you know
