Hi! My name is Breanna Barnes and I am a first year student at Central Texas College in Marble Falls, Texas. I am trying to gather funds and materials for a successful sophomore year at the University of North Texas which I am transferring to in Fall of 2018. My goal of $10,000 dollars will deeply alleviate money issues for both my fall and spring semesters.

I have two siblings, one if which will probably be starting his first year of college just as I am moving to Denton. Sending two kids to college is tough enough but my dad is getting older and will most likely be retiring from construction within the next few years and my mother has a large laundry list of health problems and ailments that require expensive medications. I don't want them to struggle and I don't want to work so hard that my grades slip, and so I am asking that anyone that visits this page please donate a small amount or purchase an item on my dorm wishlist.

For every $10 donated you will be entered for a chance to win the ultimate prize pack of either Japanese Media and Food Items or a fun selection of Dorm/Relaxation Goodies!!! Bonus entries will be given for items purchased on my Dorm Wishlist, sharing this campaign link with the #changetoteachdream on Instagram, and following my campaign on Instagram! EACH PRIZE WILL BE VALUED AT OVER $100!!!

Items purchased on my wishlist will be used the entire time I attend UNT!

I will be working on campus while I study in the hopes of saving enough funds to purchase my first home after college ( or at least get a down payment on one).

What am I going to school for? I'm glad you asked! Well it all started long ago in a kingdom far...far.... wait.... I think this will roll better!

I have one simple and very reasonable goal: I will gain my secondary school teaching degree through an alternative certification program and start my career within the next four years teaching high school art and history.

My interest in teaching dates back to when I was in 2nd grade. At my elementary school in Killeen, Texas we celebrated different cultures and holidays jubilantly, we pasted together pictures and wrote stories passionately, and the entire year and a half I spent there was eventful and informative. And then I moved to hell or more accurately Ennis, Texas. I was in the second part of my second grade year and I was bullied ravenously for fairly innocent accidents on a daily basis. Despite a healthy variety of rocks and branches pelting me during my stay there, the most memorable form of bullying came to me during our career day costume party. Red and white banners were everywhere announcing the event and many of us graciously accepted the opportunity to wear anything besides our school uniforms. Sitting at my school desk, my small chubby feet hanging lazily above the linoleum I had begun crying. I had dressed up at as a teacher. Three or four boys circled like vultures around my desk chanting “Mrs. Barnes” in unison. I had spent all night on my printer-paper desk plate, writing in perfect cursive. An extra “R” was all it took to stir up their wrath. One weaselly blonde boy slowly threw crayons from his 64 pack at my desk sneering. Stubborn and a bit annoyed mini me deliberately ripped the desk name up into fine wisps. Reaching into my journal I carefully tore a perfect rectangle of striped paper into the shape of a name badge. Smiling up at the boys I calmly stood up crushing a good amount of crayons and triumphantly snatching one singular black crayola from the now multicolored flooring. Brandishing it like a weapon I wrote Ms. Barnes in large round letters with a flourish and then impaled the top of the makeshift tag with the crayon breaking it into several pieces. Still grinning I whipped my hair ribbon out of my small disheveled bun and tied my new name tag to my neck. From that day forward I never had to deal with the three stooges of Ennis again.

A lot has happened since then. I have moved at least six times around the state and I have worked as a janitor, a secretary, and as a journeyman for my family's construction company. At school I have kept my grades high and currently have a 3.9 GPA. I have won the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders Award of Excellence and have participated in multiple art competitions and shows. I am a professional costume and prop designer, having won awards at store openings for several pieces based on Japanese animation and videogames.

I avidly volunteer in the community and have helped with site restoration, local adoption days, and festivals!

There was always a romantic or noble charm to the idea of teaching. Devoting one’s life to others while also giving life to the lines on a page was magical to my young eyes and still is. With knowledge we can learn how life is created, navigate the heavens without ever leaving our homes or travel into the deepest depths of the human soul with relative ease. I am looking forward to making this journey and appreciate any help you can offer!
