₱4,000.00raised of ₱500,000.00 goal goal
To my Family, Friends and to the wonderful and kind people of this world,
Hi to everyone! My name is Ronald Zapanta, 41 yrs. old, living with my wife in Antipolo City, Rizal which is located at the outskirts of Manila, Philippines. I am humbly writing this campaign with big hopes to ask for your prayers and financial aid to battle my recently diagnosed Nasopharyngeal Cancer.
My symptoms started last December 2019. One day, I felt that there is a fluid-like substance inside in my left ear that when I turned on either side while lying down, I feel that the fluid would flow as gravity would affect it. I went to the doctor and was advised to take antibiotics. A week after the medication, nothing seemed to have happened. I was still feeling this fluid inside of my ear. So, I decided consult with an ENT doctor and this time I was told that I needed to undergo a minor surgery called Myringotomy. This entailed that my left eardrum would be sliced a little bit just to let the fluid drain out of my ear. I did this surgery on the first week of January 2020 and instantly I was not feeling the fluid anymore.
A few months later, I noticed that I am starting to have a hard time hearing. When someone is talking to me or when I am overhearing conversations of others, I could not hear their voices clearly. Even the random ambient sounds of my surroundings were not clear anymore. I could hear echoes when people or an objects passes the side of my left ear. Also, I would see some blood traces in my saliva when I spit specially in the mornings. I am also having recurring headaches that sometimes are quite severe, I can hardly bear. With what has been happening to me, it is obvious that I am not ok.
In the following weeks, I have undergone lab tests, CT scan and nasal endoscopy as advised by the ENT doctor. With these tests, it became apparent that a tumor was present inside of my nasopharynx. The doctor explained that this tumor was the cause of the fluid development inside my left ear and he advised me to undergo Biopsy as soon as possible. The Biopsy would tell whether the tumor is cancerous or not, and if it were cancerous, its current stage.
The following weeks became very unfortunate, not just for me, but also the rest of the world! The cases of Covid-19 in the Philippines have risen to the point where the government was forced to place Manila and its neighboring provinces under lockdown. Part of the effect of the lockdowns was closure of medical clinics and major hospitals focusing on Covid-19 cases. Consultations had to be done via the phone or internet. After 2 months of hard lockdown, the government has implemented a lighter measure for community quarantine which allowed the clinics to be reopened.
With a positive mindset, I went through the Biopsy procedure last May 2020. This procedure was a ver0y painful experience as only local anesthesia was administered. The doctor grabbed a sample of the tumor by inserting a very small device through my nostril.
After ten (10) days, we had the Biopsy result and the doctor told me the very sad news that I have Nasopharyngeal Cancer Stage 3. This is a type of cancer that attacks the nose and throat with potential to spread throughout the body. Since this news, my family and I were very depressed knowing that this disease could potentially take my life. Me and My wife have been together only 9 years and so far have no children yet. I still want to experience the happiness of family life, become a father and achieve our goals and dreams.
I was referred to an Oncologist and was advised that I needed to undergo combination of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. I was quite relieved and was motivated by the fact that the Oncologist strongly believed that I have a very good chance of beating this disease. I am very grateful for the moral and financial support from my family and friends so far. However, the medical bills, procedures, test and treatments are just too expensive for me. The Oncologist prescribed 35 sessions of radiotherapy and 6 sessions of chemotherapy and I would go through these treatments in a span of 6 months.
I work as warehouse staff in a local manufacturing company. Also, I might not be able to work and would have to depend on my wife’s income throughout the duration of the treatment. It really puts me into tears that I am burdening my family with this disease and I am deeply hurt to see that they are really trying so hard to be strong for me and help me.
With God’s mercy and grace, I know that I have to face this new challenge in my life for the sake of the ones who care for me. It has been emotionally and mentally draining dealing with a disease and thinking about how to work out the finances. But I am now mentally and physical prepared and I can courageously say it is time to fight! I will be strong for my wife! I will be strong for my family and friends! Most importantly, even if it is so hard, I will be strong for myself!
I am humbly asking for your help and support for additional funding of my treatments.I am knocking on your generous hearts to extend a little help with this fight. We would really appreciate your kindness in throwing a lifeline to help me and my family. No words can explain our deepest gratitude for any amount you may give. I would like to thank you wholeheartedly even just for your time reading and sharing this campaign. Thank you also for praying for my recovery. May God bless your generous heart.
We know that God is with us to guide and help me fight this battle!

First of all, thank you very much to those who have helped and supported my treatment - my relatives, friends, and people who I don't even know. May our Lord God bless your kindness and generosity. Last Sept 14, 2020, I finished all 35 sessions of my radiation treatment. It. . . . .
