About 7 years ago, my father started hemodialysis treatment twice a week for his stage 5 chronic kidney disease. Shortly thereafter, we had to take him to the hospital on 2 occasions for pulmonary congestion which resulted to him needing more dialysis sessions. With this added cost, somehow, by the grace of God, we were able to cope with Tatay’s thrice a week dialysis during the first 3 years.

During the last 4 years, however, he has been in and out of the hospital for several episodes of lung congestion, pneumonia, surgeries related to his dialysis access, heart attack, stroke with vascular dementia, COVID-19, sepsis, and hypertensive urgency.

Hospitalization has become routine for Tatay. His frequent hospitalizations, which are already 4 for this year alone, were in the range of PhP150,000 to PhP450,000 per admission. These have been hitting us really hard which magnified our distress with my father’s health status. In order to cope, we resorted to selling the remaining properties of the family which unfortunately was not enough to cover years of medical expenses. My sister’s house we are living in will also be sold after settling a land issue. My siblings, who have their own families to support, contribute, but due to the nature of his chronic illness and the resulting hospitalizations from complications, it put our family in financial crisis.

On July 4, 2020, Tatay suffered a debilitating hemorrhagic stroke which led to his admission in ICU. He was unconscious and had to be put on ventilator. It was a touch and go situation. His prognosis was quite bad but Tatay surprisingly continues to fight.

At the moment, our partial bill amounted to P456,000, it is staggering and we are really in dire straits. That is why I decided to have this fundraising program for Tatay. I want to help with the medical bill in any way I can, as I myself cannot work, being my father’s sole caregiver and assisting in my mother’s care also who is wheelchair-bound for rheumatoid arthritis.

My siblings are doing their utmost best to gather resources but due to the huge amount we need to raise, I am now here humbly asking for your donation in order to raise funds to help pay Tatay’s hospital bill.

I want to thank you all in advance for your kindness and generosity in helping Tatay. GBU

Home at last

Update posted by Marilou Magparangalan at 04:00 am

After almost a month in the hospital, atay was finally discharged and is currently recuperating at home. He is still very weak especially on the right side because of the stroke but he can move it and there is less swelling. With continued improvement over time, hopefully, his NGT can. . . . .

Out of ICU now

Update posted by Marilou Magparangalan at 02:18 pm

For starters, thank you so much everyone for all your prayers. Through God’s merciful intercession, it was decided upon that Tatay is not a candidate for tracheostomy anymore. He can now manage to breathe just with the use of the nasal cannula oxygen. As a result, he was transferred out. . . . .

Tatay now

Update posted by Marilou Magparangalan at 03:40 pm

After being slowly weaned from the ventilator, Tatay stays on oxygen. He is awaiting schedule of his tracheostomy. There are days he’s asleep and days awake. There are also times he remembers me and times that he can’t.
