I am a junior honor's student attending the University of North Texas, majoring in English with a Teacher's Cert. and minoring in spanish.  I am studying to pursue a career in education as an English teacher and to possibly work in education reform. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 8 years old beacause of my love for education and school and my passion for the youth.  I  dedicate every summer to working with youth, through volunteering, intern teaching, or camp counseling because I believe in providing positive, young, energetic role models our children can relate to. I also believe it is my calling to help change the education system and the way instructors teach for the better. I believe too many teachers are simply teaching because "it's something to do" and students are suffering because of lack of encouragemnent and belief in a place they need it most. I come from a low income family, being the oldest of four, and what the pell grant doesn't pay for puts much financial strain on my mother.  I am raising this fund to help me continue and complete my undergraduate education at UNT and to study abroad in Spain in the summer. I feel that being fluent in spanish will better my chances in reaching my goals, making me as powerful as two people and able to reach twice as many students. I believe rhis funding will assist me in answering that call for change and to put the meaning back into educating. I feel school is a place that ALL students should feel they can succeed and they should be able to have their academic needs met.
