South African Musicians Support Association

Are you a music lover?

A musician's life is often a tough life. Long hours. Short money. Exhausting travel. No job security, health benefits, retirement package or other formal support. Even the most gifted frequently find themselves unable to feed, house, clothe and educate themselves or their families. and often there's no place to turn to. We feel It is time to change that.A group of people who love and support live music see what South African musicians experience and have decided to take action to help remedy this situation. To that end they have come together to create the South African Musicians Support Association (SAMSA).

SAMSA is based on similar programmes developed in London, New York, Los Angeles and New Orleans. that have been in existance for at 20 years or more. SAMSA is envisioned to be a place where professional musicians can apply for help with everything from petrol to the next tour; to dental expenses; replacement of lost or stolen instruments; a bag of groceries; children school fees; the phone bill, electric bill and almost anything else that might tip a performing artist's career into crisis. We just can't stand the fact that musicians and their crew who help provide South Africa with the music it needs and loves, not be able to pay their rent or provide food for their children.

SAMSA will be a registered Non-profit Voluntary Association with a Board and Membership made up of passionate music fans, industry professionals, musicians, journalists and organisations which are involved in the administration and production of music.

The Constitution and we have received our NPO Status. Registration No. 241-420 NPO. This transparent crowd-funding campaign is set up via this GoGetFunding to raise the initial seed capital required to manifest this dream. Any and all funds available from this account will be used in accordance with the entire Board only if necessary and balance transferred to the official bank account when open and available.

To all Music Lovers....Have a favorite South African musician, here or gone, that you love and want to honour? Please make your donation in their name and spread the news about them in the comment section of the donation section. https://assets.gogetfunding.com/musiciansupport/

Why SAMSA? Howard Barber, a superfan music lover, started this long awaited project towards the end of 2019. However, being created before Covid 19, there have been some delays. In the meantime, many non-funding tasks have been accomplished in order to assist musicians. The SAMSA leadership has been in close contact with the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture in order to aid musicians in getting any government funding available. The communication, forms, Q&A and updated government notifications has been extensive. This work has provided relief to musicians completely donated by SAMSA via the Whatsaap and Telegram groups. SAMSA has also provided assistance to musicians in relation to SAMRO disputes. We are currently looking for more ways to provide assistance free of charge but it can be difficult as volunteers return to work. The professional services that every NPO organisation needs are currently being donated but as we build, so will the need. SAMSA now has a legal group providing copyright and contract law asssitance to musicians free of charge. funds. If you know of a company, medical group, automotive group etc, willing to provide benefits in lieu of cash, please don't hesitate to contact us. If there are fundraising opportunites you would like to present to SAMSA, please get in touch.

All charitable contributions will be carefully tracked and ultimately help provide the foundation South Africa musicians in their time of need. Obviously we want as funds to be able to go direc to our musicians.

Please support our journey to keep music, and musicians, alive and thriving in South Africa. https://assets.gogetfunding.com/musiciansupport/
