The Inspiration

Hello,

The issue of availability and distribution of sanitary pads to girls in Zambia has always been a problem. When my colleague and I visited Zambia for a 6 week project, we got to know the lack of hygiene levels amongst girls during their menstruation period . This was an eye opener for us and that is when we decided to do something about the situation.

To begin with we bought one carton of sanitary pads and distributed it among 18 girls in our group. The carton consisted of 36 packets of sanitary pads, each girl getting 2 packets that last for 2 period cycles.

As individuals we could only reach out too few girls for a short stay in Zambia and that is not enough. That's when the idea was formed to start an NGO named MUSA which would help Zambian girls maintain their hygiene levels during menstruation period and keep them away from illicit activities by active participation in sports and education.

About Us:

Mtendere United Sports Academy (MUSA) is an indigenous Zambian community football team based in Mtendere compound of Zambia.

Overall objective:

To improve the health and well being of adolescents and youth in order to enhance their productivity and contribution to the development of their community through participation in sports.

Problem:

Girls in Zambia still continue to rely on unhygienic solutions like leaves and hay during their menstruation periods instead of proper hygienic products like sanitary pads. This problem persists due of lack of education and awareness regarding the importance of hygienic practices during menstruation.

An average menstruation cycle lasts for 5 days a month, which adds up to almost two months every year.

A Zambian girl does not attend school or get involved in sports during their menstruation cycles thereby missing two months of participation in education and sports.

A pack of sanitary pads is expensive to families in Zambia which leads girls to get into Illicit activities to generate income for their livelihood and survival.

What are we trying to achieve?

Providing sanitary solutions to every girl in Zambia through participation & involvement in education and sports to keep them from getting into illicit activities.

Every single contribution makes a huge difference to this cause and make this project a success. Hence, we request you to please donate and help us to reach our goals and objectives for the girls in Zambia.

A minimum amount of 20 pounds would be appreciated.
