MUN Competition In India

Good Day,

We are in dire need of your financial help.

We were recently invited to and given the opportunity to attend an Model United Nations Debating conference in Mumbai, India, with a group of other young and budding leaders.

We are citizens of South Africa and representing the country that birthed us, the continent of Africa and our school would be a dream come true.

This conference is on the 15th to the 18th of August and we received the invite recently. We started working on our passports and VISAs about 3 weeks ago. After 3 long stressful weeks of preprations, everything started falling into place.

For the duration of our knowledge of this conference we thought that the price of our stay had been subsidised but we were soon to find out otherwise. We and our mothers had thought that we only had to pay R500 (2500 INR/ $35) for our stay and the conference. Only to find out that we had been waived for R500 (2500 INR/ $35) which is extremely disappointing because we have been preparing, working hard and looking forward to this trip for months.

The institution agreed to subsidise to R11 500 (R3 700/ child) from R15 000 (R5 000/ child) but this is a lot of money to come up with in just 3 days. Our parents agreed that they'd be able to raise R1 000/ child. The outstanding balance is R8500.

We are extremely disheartened by the dilemma that arose. We [Thandeka, Munnira and Khahliso] are extremely passionate about engaging in such forums. We’ve worked so hard and tirelessly to lose everything so abruptly. Our hard work will not go in vain. We still have hope and we just cannot allow our aspirations to be dismissed because of finances. Our goals, aims and passions for ourselves are so much bigger than finance.

It is a once in lifetime opportunity that can help us in our respective dream careers. The experience itself, would be one we will remember until old age. We dream of being the change we want to see in the world. We have a lot of dreams for our world, going to this would bring us several steps closer.

Our VISAs have been approved. We have raised enough money to buy plane tickets. If you need any proof of all this I can provide you with the relevant information. We have compiled all our necessary documents.
