Multiple Sclerosis Challenge Walk

Last year my stepmom introduced me to the Challenge Walk for Multiple Sclerosis. My grandma on her side has lived with this disease for many years and recently I found out that a very close friend of my family was also diagnosed. The second she told me about the cause I was determined to participate and support these two wonderful woman, but unfortunately we found out about it too late. We had to wait a year but the time has finally come for her and I to make a difference to the growing number of 400,000 people in the United States living with this life changing disease. Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between the brain and body and stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. Advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. On September 5th, I will be walking fifty miles over three days to raise money for the National MS Society. This year’s walk goal is to raise $1 million to end MS. My stepmom and I have made a commitment to raise $5,000 to participate, and hope to surpass this amount.
