Campaign Story
MSICHANA NA MALENGO PROJECT
Msichana na Malengo Project is a project which intends to create self awareness and life skills to adolescent school girls in Kibondo District. This project will in cooperate with the Provision of safe menstrual tool kit to girl students from poor families.
Back ground of the project
Msichana na Malengo is a swahili phrase which means Girl with Ambition. In 2020, Jali Maisha Foundation team established a program known as Msichana na melengo campaign which Focused on empowering school girls to understand their value and to have positive impact to the society. The campaign reached out 200 girls.
In 2021 we intend to reach 500 school girls and give them training on self awareness and life skills. According to UNICEF life skills Is defined as knowledge, knowledge, attitudes and the ability for adoptive and positive behavior that enable individual to deal effectively with the challenges of everyday life.
Project main aim is "To sustainably create gender sensitive and friendly environment for second school girls through access to awareness skills and access to sanitary napkins so as they manage their menstruation impact".
Project duration: Six months
Starting date: October,2021.
Project objectives
This project aims to achieve the following objectives by the end of the project:
-Increase girl's school attendance especially for day schooling girls
-Improved performance of examination and learning in general
-Create friendly and conducive learning environment for school girls
Planned activities
-Sensitive counselling
-Proper education on self awareness youth life skills
-Proper education of safe menstrual hygiene
-Provision if quality sanitary facilities
-Commemoration of international day of a girl child
Study shows that " It has been established that many school girls don't go to school for between three and five days every month for few of soiling themselves and being ridiculed when menstruating"
This is the reality for girls in Tanzania. With a lack of sanitary pads, most girls become uncomfortable, restricted and develop lack of confidence in their everyday lives. In both primary and secondary there is massive reduction in girls attendance in class. 18% of 13 years old girls nationally are not attending school, rising to 34 at age 14 and 44% at age 15.
