Ms. Millar’s Middle School Classroom

Hello my name is Ms. Millar. I am excited to embark on my second year as a Middle school Language Arts Teacher. Many students seem to lack parental support, lack motivation and have a lack of materials necessary for academic success. Something as simple as a pencil or a flash drive can have a positive affect on student success. State standardize test are now given on the computer and low income students do not have enough practice typing essays and submitting work on computers due to lack of materials and consistent computer access. As a Title 1 school, many of our students are low income and school stops when the bell rings. Last year I provided materials, tutoring after school, raffled sneakers off for spelling competitions, built relationships with families outside of the classroom, took students to feed the hungry and much more. I spent quite a bit of my Summer brainstorming ways to help provide more support to my students this 2017-2018 school year. Last year 83% of my 8th grade scholars passed the state standardize test. This year I want to increase motivation in my 7th and 8th grade students which will sequentially increase test scores.

We need your help! Students in this generation are motivated by incentives.Teachers have long offered incentives for directing student behavior and overall student academic growth. Although I would love to continue depleting my salary on classroom supplies(such as copy paper, pencils etc), toiletries, and incentives( such as pizza parties and etc) my salary can not support my desire for change. A small donation goes a long way and will assist me to motivate my students and increase learning potential.
