Calling out all AHSS alumni!

First of all, we hope all of you are doing great wherever you might be around the world!

I’m sure most of you, if not all, have amazing memories at AHSS. We, class of 1996, can all agree that we lived the best years of our lives at AHSS. It was our home. We wanted to be there every single day. It was a place where we were allowed to be ourselves and grow into the people we are today. Mrs Sue Dahdah allowed us to do so. I’m sure everyone has some great memories of Mrs Sue :)

After graduating in 1996, we all went on with our lives… went to universities, found jobs, built careers and families etc. But we always had a longing for the good old days. A few years back, we made it a point to go visit the school. We were surprised to see some teachers from back then, still there. And believe me they look younger than ever! We were greeted by Mrs Sue and she remembered all of us by name, she even remembered our parents and brothers and sisters. Its amazing how after all these years, she remembered so many details! She is as amazing as she ever was. Still has the same passion for education and students. She is still insisting on having the family atmosphere at the school and still believes that students should love the school and be allowed to be who they want to be! She still believes that all students are equal. She is still the most amazing teacher, principal, mother, friend, mentor, human, etc.

After meeting her again for a few times after all these years, I driving away from school heading home and thinking how after all these years no one has ever done some sort of appreciation of this amazing woman! How after everything she accomplished no one ever acknowledged all her efforts and passion?! So, I thought why dont we make a documentary about her and all her efforts, challenges she faced and passion and how she has changed our lives. I do not know one person that graduated that wasnt happy being there and wished they were somewhere else!

I talked to some friends and we agreed to go ahead with the documentary. We talked to Tarek Dahdah and got his approval and talked to Sue about it and she was ecstatic and is very eager to see the final video!

We started shooting a few months back and then faced some obstacles with finding the right video editor, etc.. Anyway, we decided we need to make this into something really professional and perhaps publish it to the media so that everyone can see what a great woman this person is! And so, because we want to make it into a really cool documentary we need some help from all graduates and alumni!

We would like the documentray to be ready by end of June and gift it to Mrs Sue on July 15th on her birthday! Where we will be showing the documentray on a big screen at school and celebrating her birthday with a big reunion party!

In order to do so, we need to step on it and finalize everything as soon as possible so we need your help. We thought of doing this fundraiser to help us finalzie the documentary and set up the birthday party at school. Any amount will help so we hope everyone will be willing to chip in! The birthday party will be a surprise for Sue so keep it on the low low 🤫

  • As long as I shall live I will never forget how Ms Sue was, and always will be, the true founder of inclusive education in Jordan. AHSS was the pioneering school in the 80s and 90s because of her unequivocal belief that EACH and EVERY child regardless of their ability or disability, not only deserved quality education, but had every right to live it with dignity, support and love, in a school environment that was a second home to those of us who were blessed and fortunate to have been a part of AHSS! Ms Sue, I and many after me owe a large part of what we became to you and the amazing network of teachers you brought together and trained. I thank you and love you for all you have done for me.

  • I joined AHSS in 1983 and I think we were the second generation to enter at the time. What a lovely time we spent there and Dr. Sue (As Badia recommended) made sure that we felt that then and now after all these years I really miss you Ms Sue , and hope that I can see you soon , if time allows us 🥺
