Campaign Story
Hey, my name is Michael Beaver. I’m a senior at Francis Howell North High School. I’ve started this fundraiser in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” through my school’s Mr. FHN program. Being my senior year, I am really looking to make this an incredible year for donations. My peers are working exceptionally hard with me to raise money for this amazing foundation, and this is my way of reaching out to help.
Why should I donate?
More than a million Americans get cancer each year. Just last year, there were an estimated 580,350 deaths from cancer. That’s in just America. Worldwide there were almost 8 million deaths from this horrendous disease. The American Cancer Society is looking to change that, and has been for over 100 years. The ACS uses the donations to help raise cancer awareness and fund research to find a cure. Any size donation truly does help the cause and will be greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps.
But your donation doesn’t just help the American Cancer Society.
It also helps us at Francis Howell North in tremendous ways. When students see how much money we raise through Mr. FHN, people get excited. More people start joining the program and being serious about getting donations. Our overall school spirit just skyrockets once we see the kind of good our school is capable of. It helps us motivate and inspire everyone by showing them that we can and will work hard for something we believe in, and how that kind of hard work can pay off in big ways. I’ve seen it happen in the past years when people have raised upwards of $700.00 individually for charity through this program. And by keeping the Mr. FHN program both alive and popular, we get even more out of it than just encouraging high school students to help charity. This program really helps people like me who are paralyzed with nerves at the thought of making a fool of themselves or going up on stage and showing what their made of. That was back when I was a sophomore, now I’m in my senior year and I’m excited to become a part of that enthusiasm and keep Mr. FHN going strong!
Where is my money going to?
All funds raised go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Why is the minimum donation amount $3.00?
I have $3.00 as the minimum donation due to high flat transaction fees.
What is Relay for Life?
Relay for Life is a part of the American Cancer Society’s effort to raise funds for cancer prevention and awareness.
What is Mr. FHN?
Mr. FHN is Francis Howell North High School's annual "male beauty pageant." In it, boys from FHN all work together to raise money for charity. In the Competition the boys compete in a variety of categories including:
- Casual wear, which involves making a creative pick up line
- Formal wear, involving a Q&A to see who can come up with the most interesting answers
- Talent portion, where the boys get to show their stuff and express their talents.
Overall though, Mr. FHN is really just about raising money for charity and having a good time while doing it.
What can I do to help?
Even if you don’t donate to the cause, you can still help tremendously by simply sharing this fundraiser on social media. Spreading the word about this is absolutely crucial to the success of this project. So please, go on Facebook, Twitter, and anything else to share this so that we can make this a spectacular donation year for Mr. FHN.
