Campaign Story
My father was a German immigrant to the United States in 1958. In 1970, when I was three years old, I traveled to Germany with my father. Upon returning to the states, my mother filed for divorce and I had my father ripped out of my life. For 39 years, I was robbed of the chance to have a relationship with my father because of my mothers accusations during divorce proceedings. I spent 13 and a half years in group homes and foster homes after the divorce because my mother got tired of me crying all the time and begging to go be with my dad. In 2011, I finally found my father and brought him home to live with me where I cared for him until he passed in January of 2013. I have long dreamed of moving to Germany to learn about my history and culture and language. I obtained my German citizenship in February of 2012 and in honor of my father and my own life long dream, I want to move to Germany permanately.
