My name is Ryan, and I have a wonderful cleaner, Lorela, who has worked for me for many years. Unfortunately, on 17 July, 2020, her son back in the Philippines was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident in which he lost his right leg. He is undergoing a series of surgeries right now, and the costs are piling up for her and her family.
Below is a link to the accident report post by the local rescue team on Facebook. (Warning: the images are somewhat graphic).
The Philippines follows the American model of private paid-for medical treatment, and the costs are very high. Everything is charged for, and of course in a hospital, a patient does not have the luxury to refuse items in order to keep costs down.
Lorela is facing an initial hospital bill of at least 100,000 HKD (approx 13,000 USD) for her son, and this is before considering rehabilitation costs, and the other lifelong costs that will begin when he is eventually discharged. All she can do right now is keep working away here in HK and send home whatever money she can earn, but even the initial costs are many times her monthly income.
She has done such a good job for me over the years, and I would like to help her, in what can only be described as the most terrible of times. She is a deeply proud person, and would never ask for help. But I can, and I am: please help. Any amount would be deeply appreciated by myself, her, and her family.
The costs are mounting day by day, so this is an emergency raise.
