Unfortunately Motor Neurone Disease has struck very close to home for me with my dad's diagnosis.
Therefore, I have chosen to raise funds for research into curing this terrible disease and will be trekking the Inca Trail in May 2017.
This is a terrible and debilitating disease with currently no cure.
I am looking to raise money to
- help fund additional research to beat this awful disease
- make people's lives more comfortable when they are living with MND.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is the name given to a group of diseases in
which the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us
to move, speak, breathe and swallow undergo degeneration and die.
Motor function is controlled by the upper motor neurones in the brain
that descend to the spinal cord; these neurones activate lower motor
neurones. The lower motor neurones exit the spinal cord and directly
activate muscles. With no nerves to activate them, muscles gradually
weaken and waste. MND can affect a person’s ability to walk, speak,
swallow and breathe.
I have had a few health challenges myself over the last 12 months however nothing like MND. So I am taking on the challenge of getting fit enough to trek the Inca Trail while raising money for this very worthy cause.....
Will you support me?
