My Mothers Tragedy. Just as the country was fighting Covid-19 my mother was an active 60 year old. Working more than full time as a personal care provider in an home for disabled adults. One morning early June my mother calls and is very ill. She needs immediate help. I feared the worse. I arrived to take her to the hospital to find my mother unable to comprehend what I was saying and doing. She waited all night to seek help went to work. As we waited for her replacement because she couldn't leave her consumers uncared for I grew more and more concerned calling 911 not willing to wait another 30 min...With so many dying and her life long smoking addiction I feared for the respiratory failure of this new virus to take another. My mother wasn't infected. She had a ruptured ulcer in her bowel. The sepsis was so bad the end result was irreversible Dementia. Age 60 overnight my mom became disabled unable to care for herself or remember much of anything. Seeing things, unable to dress, or even remember what a phone, remote or a TV was or how to work them. I had just lost my job due to Covid and so had my fiance. With 5 children, one with Downs Syndrome, we were already struggling with the additional stress of no savings or income. All the children stuck at home and some high risk. Now my mother needs 24/7 care. With limited memory care facilities in our area in addition to no income to pay for a facility she needed to be home. I live 20 minutes away from my mother. My fiance takes a few kids and I take some and we trade them back and forth due to no room at my mother's and no room at my home for my mother. At my mother's we sleep on futon mattresses and on the floor. We also have dogs who need care at home etc so someone has to be home at some time in the day and all that would be difficult for my mother staying with us. Also being feet from a lake many ways to fall and get confused our home needs many improvements for her to move there if she can. Internet is better at my mother's enabling better access for school. My mother also being diagnosed with COPD was now on oxygen and we can't risk exposure. Electing to keep the kids home from school and schooling online also has insane expenses. Internet in the boonies is ridiculously expensive. I'm not succeeding at paying rent at two homes. The gas alone back and forth everyday. All utilities, one being tanks of propane. Without all her formal evaluations done my mother doesn't qualify for Social security yet and I also can't qualify for caretaker pay. My oldest is graduating and with school now again closed is missing out like so many others but I can't afford cap and gown, anything. I'm sad and embarrassed to ask for help but we are sinking fast, hoping to wake up to power...constantly begging for food. I need help. If you can find it in your heart to do so I would be so grateful. Thank you.
