I'm off to northern India in a couple of weeks to work with infants and toddlers in day care centres in the rural town of Palampur. Due to widespread poverty, most families are unable to look after their children, and so these centres have been set up by staff and volunteers so that the children can be cared for. I'll be doing all sorts - feeding, cleaning, teaching, playing games, and most importantly showing them love and kindness...
Volunteers have played a big role in the gradual and positive change of these day care centres, working with and caring for the children and helping to educate them. The centres don't have enough materials and supplies and once there I'll be able to see exactly what the project needs and make sure any donation gives the most value, and anything I buy for them locally will contribute to the local economy.
I feel really privileged to be able to make this journey and hope to able to bring some hope and joy to these vulnerable children. This amazing part of India near Tibet and the snowcapped Himalayas, is surrounded by lush green tea plantations and near to the home of the Dalai Lama, so to end with a quote from him; "The more you are motivated by love, the more fearless and free your action will be. "
Any donation you can make will be very gratefully received.
