Hey friends, I am adventuring to the Mongolian Steppe for three wonderful weeks to help save the rare and wild takhi horses, or Przewalski's horses. By day, I will be an eco-volunteer out on the steppes of Mongolia, gathering information on the numbers, health and behaviour of these endangered horses in Hustai National Park. By night, I will be inputting the data and research, and living in a yurt. How cool is that! Please help me to help conserve these horses by donating to this campaign. Your $ will go directly to the program and help save these endangered horses on their native land.
While the program has been successful, takhi numbers are still limited and are still endangered. These aren't feral horses descended from the domesticated horse like the brumby or mustang. The takhi are considered the only true wild horse in existence today. Below are photos of takhi horses ( takhi is Mongolian for “spirit” ). Outside of Mongolia you will know these horses as Przewalski’s horses, discovered by that famous Russian explorer in 1881. At one time only 12 remained and their future looked bleak. But thanks to this program, which includes conservation of the ecosystem, a limited number are roaming free on the land of their ancestors.
I arrive in June 2019. My accommodation will be an awesome felt Yurt on site in Hustai National Park outside of Ulaanbaatar, living like the locals :)
There is no mobile phone reception or internet on site. I will need to hike 2 hours to the top of a nearby hill for the closest service! If you donate now, I will look forward to sending you a postcard from the Mongolian steppe!, and or capture your own personal photo just like this one....gorgeous.
I wish all equine lovers will get a chance one day to see some of the lucky few horses truly free. Please donate now. Every little bit helps so thank you. xo
