My disabled Mom was just trying to live life, doing the best she could, caring for her 90-year-old World War II Navy Veteran father, my grandfather, who was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome, and smooth the waters with his female roommate. The roommate threw a fit over something trivial, as is her nature, and moved out of her own accord. My grandfather has since passed away, but now the roommate is suing my mom and our family trust. It is our opinion that this roommate is probably a “professional plaintiff” who preys on older men in hopes of marrying them and/or usurping their family trust/estate; she has been a thorn in our side for years and thankfully my grandfather refused to marry her. Our family trust was/is truly not worth much, to the point that we cannot afford legal fees. But, unfortunately, an individual trustee cannot represent a trust as pro per; a lawyer must be retained. The grief of losing her father and being sued by his toxic, our opinion, roommate is ruining my mom’s life! She used to be optimistic and believed that when life got tough there would be solutions. But now she has developed severe anxiety and depression, and believes that we will end up losing everything. My mom is terrified of this woman, who does have a criminal record, and my mom, or myself for that matter, has no experience with legal issues. We are surviving on my lower middle-class income and just my mom’s minimal social security. We cannot afford legal fees. Anything at this point would be beyond appreciated!
