Mom & James Volunteer Trip to Kenya

Hi there,

My name is Renata. I am an artist based in New York City. Together with my 14 years old son, James, we are at our first volunteering mission this summer. Our destination: suburbs of Nairobi, in Kenya.

We are volunteering at one of the Elementary Community Schools in the impoverished town of Ngong.

For a month and a half helping out and working every day with children, in one of the the local orphanages, sharing who we are and what we have.

Our plan is to put our skills into action and share with children what we know best:

• I want to share a joy of expressing yourself in creating art, and being care free for a moment, when you are immersing yourself in making an artwork;

and

• James wants to share with other kids his knowledge and passion for chess. The joy of the victory and a lesson in grace and kindness coming from the defeat. He wants to coach them playing proper soccer that gives sense of unity coming from working together as a team.

We are aware that, if we want to do any of this we need to provide All the materials and supplies ourselves. The resources are scarce there. We need art supplies and tools, chess sets and soccer balls.

We will be working with over 150 children. And we ask you to help us raising funds towards purchasing more of much needed materials and supplies. Aside from paying our own expenses, we can’t provide all required chess sets and art materials.

Help us share the joy of living with the less fortunate ones! We are all children at heart!

And enable a teenager from an affluent country to open his heart and experience the true power of empathy and learn by sharing.
