Moldova Project 2016

We are a group of 6 Optometry students from Cardiff University who are travelling to Moldova this summer to carry out free sight tests in an impoverished community. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and will go towards purchasing glasses for those in need!

We are extremely lucky and thankful to have the expenses of the trip already covered by generous donations from companies and organisations such as Specsavers and Rotary Clubs. Therefore ALL donations on this page will go directly to buying glasses.

The more money we raise, the more spectacles we can buy, and the more people we can help. Thank you from all of us!

The project is part of an already well-established mission at Cardiff University, which has been running for 7 years and has already reached out to over 25,000 people in desperate need of vision correction. The trip was originally based in Romania until organisers decided to branch out to other places in Europe that suffer from extreme poverty.

This year, due to the success in the past, a team of six student volunteers, selected by experienced optometrists, and four supervisors, will be journeying to Moldova at the end of July 2016. The aim is to provide free sight tests and spectacles that will significantly improve the quality of life for thousands of people in communities that would otherwise have no opportunity for such care.

During our stay we intend to help over 1500 impoverished people of all ages, spending time in different village communities and travelling to various rural areas. Each person in the team travelling out this summer is extremely passionate about this project and the practice of optometry, and we cannot wait to begin work there.

We are all very excited to take part in this project and are working very hard to exceed our target and to make it as successful as possible.
