Moirai Ballet Needs Your Help to Change the World of Ballet!

Moirai Ballet is new. We're different. We're two women venturing into a world that's always been male dominant, body negative, and socially unaware. And we're making our first steps into the world, and need your help to do it!

We are very excited to be presenting our first full length ballet, Echo and Narcissus, at the Hot Air Music Festival in San Francisco on March 2nd, 2014. As such, we need your help more than ever to cover the costs and production of the ballet! For more info check out the Hot Air Music Festival's web site. http://hotairmusicfestival.com

Here's a little bit about us and our mission:

Moirai Ballet aims to provide all new, classical, romantic, and neoclassical ballets to the San Francisco Bay Area in an exciting new way; costs are kept low to provide accessibility to all, while recruiting local talent enables the company to keep production values higher than ever. By creating all new ballets in the classical tradition, Moirai is reviving classical ballet, making it accessible, exciting, and unforgettable.

The inspiration for Moirai Ballet stems from Artistic Director Sarah Hartman’s experience as a professional ballerina and her partnership with Chinese-born composer Lo. Between the two of them, there is a vast and diverse knowledge of literature, art, social issues, history, and more—all ideas untapped by current ballet companies within the establishment. Seeking to break out of the often pretentious and inaccessible ballet world of today, Moirai Ballet focuses on creating brand-new ballets featuring everything from well-known fairy tales and myths (like Echo & Narcissus), to major historical issues (World War II and the Holocaust), and social themes (life, love, and mental illness in the current generation).

Moirai Ballet intends to breathe life and passion into the aging ballet world. Another difference? Moirai will not only welcome new audiences, but invite them into the process, with multimedia behind-the-scenes presentations, audience participation in the development of new ballets, and more. Moirai Ballet will also make each show unforgettable, by recreating the Neoclassical atmosphere of 1920s Europe and salon culture; art shows and parties will be a part of each show—enticing audiences not just to watch, but to be a part of it all.

Here's the teaser for Echo and Narcissus, as shot by Low Tek Studios--who will also be shooting our promo video!: http://vimeo.com/58733111

Where you come into the picture

We're currently in the process of applying for Nonprofit 501(c)(3) status in California, so that we can accept donations and make them tax deductible--which will allow us to get funded! We need your help to complete the costs associated with this project (which approximates $1,000 in the state of California), and now, more than ever, your help to stage the production of Echo and Narcissus. This means costumes, lighting designs, flooring to keep dancers safe, and musicians to make the experience unforgettable.

More on Moirai

You can find Moirai Ballet on the web at www.moiraiballet.org

The site includes photos, bios, our mission statement, goals, plans for the future, and even our REALLY cool promotional trailer for Echo and Narcissus! Pretty good stuff, right?

In addition to all the good news, we also started a process for composer submissions; this way local and unknown composers can submit their works to stage new and exciting ballets! We have already had an overwhelming number of responses, and look forward to staging a ton of AMAZING ballets!

All About YOU!

Not only do you get to walk away feeling awesome if you donate to helping Moirai achieve nonprofit status, you also get some pretty sweet rewards. Artists, crafters, and company members have all pitched in to offer amazing rewards! Not only will your gift not be forgotten, it will be returned ten fold with generous arts. Give to art, get art back. Pretty cool, right?

So what are you waiting for? Start being awesome right now!

  • You're so close to your goal! I know it's a small donation, but I hope it helps you get there! I would very much appreciate it if you could share my fundraiser on social media or anywhere; I'm trying to raise funds to volunteer in an orphanage in India this summer and am having trouble spreading the word! Good luck with this, it's such a good cause! Much love, Dakota https://gogetfunding.com/project/volunteering-at-orphanage-in-india

Update posted by Sarah Hartman at 02:55 pm

It hasn't even been two days, and I am overwhelmed with the generosity and level of donations we have received. I'm still a little in shock, to be honest! As I fill out the paperwork to submit to the state of California, to make this all official, I have every. . . . .
