Mobile Home Move for Family in Need

A young family (Stephanie and Shane Goldsmith with their 3 year old and 17 month old children) in Putney, VT, was burned out of their trailer home in January. The infant’s cries woke the family. A non-profit group, the Winston Prouty Center of Brattleboro is assisting the family who has been living in several different temporary housing situations. Another non-profit, the Brothers of Weston Priory (Benedictine Monks) became aware of the situation and offered to donate a double-wide trailer to the family. The trailer will be free for the family but the cost of moving the trailer and needed foundational work will be costly. The doublewide will have to be cut in half, moved on two trucks and reassembled. The extra roof must be removed and sewer, water and power lines will have to be moved at the receiving property. A group of Priory-connected folks have been doing major preparation work at the trailer both inside and out for the move and the Prouty Center has been spearheading the fundraising. (Donations are tax deductible). The family was able to salvage very little from their original trailer. They were able to save the urns from 2 previous children who died from sepsis and premature birth.

Housing options are running out and there is a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice needed for the trucking company before the double wide move can take place and there is not yet enough money raised to pay for the move and the new cement pad needed.
