WHO WE ARE

Hi! I am Angel Aquino, co-founder of FAVORI – a company known for its scents and wellness products.

We are living in strange and trying times and I thought of how FAVORI as a team may be able to help our medical frontliners & health workers in hospitals & communities, by thinking of ways that may help reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus. This is in support of efforts that have already been implemented by the government since the start of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), such as frequent hand washing, wearing of masks, and the practice of safe physical distancing.

While these are the standard measures to help reduce virus infection, there are still other preventive and supplemental means that we feel may help reduce the risk.

Together with a team of entrepreneurs/makers from #teamFAVORI, we thought of making use of nano-technology dispersion machines that we utilize in some of our businesses since 7 years ago, by converting them to enable the building of Mobile Disinfection Units (MDUs).

WHAT IS A MOBILE DISINFECTION UNIT (MDU)

The Mobile Disinfection Unit (MDU) is a compact, contactless walk-through disinfection system that uses a nano dispersion machine. This system enables delivery of nano particles of disinfectant via a dry mist to coat a person inside the unit to inactivate infectious agents such as COVID-19 and to prevent the transfer of the disease to another host.

In a hospital environment, the MDU may help prevent transmission amongst medical frontliners, health workers, staff, etc., by decreasing inadvertent viral carriage of FOMITES (any inanimate object that when contaminated with or exposed to infectious agents, can transfer disease to a new host) like PPEs, masks, face shields, shoe covers, etc while exiting COVID-assigned areas.

Each unit is composed of a cabin (75 H x 36 W x 36 D inches) and a nano-dispersion machine.

For the disinfectant solution, our recommendation is any alcohol brand approved by the FDA which can be 70% Ethyl or Isopropyl Alcohol.

DRY MIST VS. WET SPRAY

The MDU’s dispersion machine uses nano technology to reduce the disinfectant solution into smaller, same-sized particles which produce a dry mist that :

  • does not wet the person
  • evenly coats a person
  • is more economical as it only needs a small amount of solution per session

Existing walk-through disinfection units we have seen use a wet-spray system which is messy and uses up more disinfectant solution faster.

WHY WE ARE DOING THIS

There has been a relatively high percentage of deaths among health workers in the Philippines due to COVID-19. This is because health care professionals who go to hospitals are more susceptible to COVID-19 infection due to proximity and direct exposure to infected patients.

They need supplemental protection specifically in COVID-assigned areas in hospitals due to possible virus that they may carry on their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE

We are targeting to raise P650,000 to produce several MDUs and deploy them to COVID-19 accredited hospitals listed by the Department of Health (DOH) that we already had initial contact and agreement with.

  1. UP-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH)
  2. National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI)
  3. Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP)
  4. Dr Jose N Rodriguez Memorial Hospital & Sanitarium (DJNRMHS)
