Mitambo International Theatre Festival

The funds will be used to support the running of the 4th edition of the Mitambo International Theatre Festival of the Arts (MITF- 2022) and 15% of the funds raised will be donated to charity.

Mitambo International Theatre Festival is an annual exciting five-day international theatre festival. The creative cultural summer gathering animates Harare - The Sunshine Capital of Zimbabwe, with the very best local and international theatre performances, master classes, critical talks, interactions and presentations.

Mitambo is a summer theatre festival that draws its name from the Shona word for plays which truly encapsulates what the festival is about: A platform through which local and global communities can access and celebrate the diversity of cultural identity and artistic expression.

Mitambo International Theatre Festival is the brain child of the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy Trust. Zimbabwe Theatre Academy is a youth led, and focused sustainable initiative that uplifts lives, by providing a unique outlet for the young and the young at heart to receive theatre making and performance training.

The theme of the Festival this year is “UPTURN” which is inspired by the need for humanity to be there for each other in these difficult times characterised by diverse hardships which include the covid 19 pandemic, war and socio-economic challenges. It has been 2 years and counting since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. We are all still reeling from the loss effected by it. However, there is no ignoring the human spirit of generosity, tenacity, capacity for joy and healing loss; we are a resilient people. Many of us have found ways of turning the loss, pain, and distress that has been brought about by the pandemic into something meaningful. The arts have maintained their place in our society as a refuge and space for healing and wonder, we recognise the efforts of everyone within our communities and call for each of us to Upturn! This is the year we go beyond! We are turning up for each other, for ourselves and our communities to fulfil our destiny in reaching towards the stars as we carry each other through this difficult time in our human histories.

Therefore in this light, the funds raised will be used to support the administration of the festival. We will have performers and workshop/ conference facilitators travelling from different countries hence they will require local travel, accommodation, refreshments and per-diems. Local based performers will also require payment and refreshments. The money will also fund internet access for streaming of the online shows, booking performance venue, volunteer support, promotional material , photography and videography and other logistical costs. We also hope to donate a percentage to charity as a way of giving back to the community.
