Mister D-Jay’s Hospital Bill

Mister D-Jay is our daughter's 4-H project horse.  Jay-Jay, as we like to call him, is a nine year old gelded Quarter Horse that was given to my daughter, Katlyn, 3 years ago.  In three years Katlyn has taken a horse that was barely rideable to a competitave level.  Her ultimate goal was to take Jay to the Tennessee State 4-H competition in Shelbyville held the third week in June.  Katlyn was confidant that Jay could place high if not win, because she had trained him all year long.  Riding in the dark, snow or rain, she was determined to show that she was a good trainer and rider.  

Then on June 4th (just 2 weeks before State competitions) Jay fell very ill.  We rushed him to U. T. Large Animal hospital.  The doctors there held little hope for Jay.  He had contracted Potomac Horse Fever, a colitis that is usually fatal.  The doctors started working and we started praying.  13 days later Jay came home to us and he is gaining strength and weight.  Jay could not go to the state competition but Katlyn was able to go with an alternate horse, and placed 2nd out of 33 horses in two classes!  We are nursing Jay-Jay "the miracle horse" back to competitive weight and strength.  Katlyn is looking forward to riding Mister D-Jay for her senior year 4-H competitons.
