Mission Trip: Manila

Dearest Friends,

     When I first heard about the trek, it had not even occurred to me to apply. I was set on graduating and finding an internship or a job. Despite this intention, I still felt very lost. I found myself constantly praying for guidance. It actually took some time for me to realize that God was already leading me somewhere.

     I don’t think things happen by chance. I think we are in the places and situations we are in for a reason. I believe that He made me, and my parents and family raised me, to have a heart for others. The time I spent doing campus ministry in Kapwa-Intervarsity fellowship has fostered the desire to care for others and do something worthwhile on their behalf. I believe strongly that sometimes it is more important to consider the wellbeing of others over your own, to “value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others” – Philippians 2:3-4 and that we should always do what we can, in the places we are, with what we have.

     I know that it is going to be difficult, but in going on this mission, I hope to gain insight into God’s heart
for people in places like this and to learn more about a part of the world I haven’t really been exposed to. I
want to do something good and worthwhile, even if it’s just for a summer. This opportunity would also
allow me to closely examine, experience, and understand the housing conditions faced by the urban poor,
an issue that I hope to address in my future endeavors using the education I have received in design, and
with the confidence I have in design to enact change.

     In order to accomplish this, I have the task of raising $3700. I would like to humbly ask you to support
and partner with me in this endeavor through financial assistance and prayer. Any donation you are willing
or able to provide would be extremely appreciated, but I would also like to ask, if it isn’t too much trouble,
for your support through prayer, especially as my fellow trekkers and I journey into this new environment.
