This past winter while listening to a guest speaker during one of our bible studies, I came to learn about the orphanages of Haiti. The stories about these children enchanted me. Stories about children, a thousand miles away, who are given completely different circumstances from those of which most American children grow up knowing, and are inspirational in their spirit. A spirit that comes from happiness, happiness for simply being alive.
The speaker that day was Pastor Leon Dorleans, a native-born Haitian himself, who works with Outreach Ministries. His accounts of the devastating 2010 earthquake, his work in the communities and the growing belief in God that was once not present in his country made me eager to learn more. One can’t help but be drawn to go to this country, and experience what one of my fellow bible study members (who has been to Haiti several times herself) referred to as a renewal in faith. In the times we live in, I’d say we could all use that.
So there is where my Mission to Haiti begins. At 24 years old I am looking to go on my first mission trip… to a country that has experienced devastation, and to help their children. I can’t do this alone though. I need your help. Whether you donate ten cents, or ten dollars, every cent helps my mission succeed.
Here is what your donations will go to:
- Travel Expenses: helping me arrive safely to Haiti, get all of the shots that are recommended for traveling to this part of the world, and getting me home.
- The Children: all money left over will go directly as a donation to Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa.
Please find it in your heart to help in any way that you can.
